PLAN TO PUT BROADMEADOW ON THE WORLD STAGE
The first stage of consultation has begun on developing a plan for a new sports and entertainment precinct at Broadmeadow.
The NSW Government, in partnership with the Hunter Region Sporting Venues Authority (Hunter Venues), has identified an opportunity to increase community use of the precinct.
This will include developing a Plan of Management (PoM) to enhance pedestrian, cycle and public transport linkages and improve and develop facilities on the Broadmeadow site.

16 NEW BEDS FOR JOHN HUNTER HOSPITAL
I recently joined the NSW Minister for Health, Carmel Tebbutt to announce that the John Hunter Hospital will benefit from $5.9 million in funding for 16 new beds.
The announcement follows the historic agreement between the NSW and Commonwealth Governments at COAG earlier this year, which will see an additional $1.2 billion injected into our health system.
Recruitment has already commenced for staff to complement the new beds, including nursing, medical and allied health staff.
NEWCASTLE’S HERITAGE - EXPLORED, PROTECTED, CELEBRATED
The NSW Government has taken the first steps to ensure the historic James Fletcher Hospital is protected for future generations by working with Hunter New England Area Health to have the site listed on the State Heritage Register.

NEWCASTLE POST OFFICE IS OURS - NOW THE WORK BEGINS
The former Newcastle Post Office has been officially handed back to the public after the NSW Government took ownership of the building in July.
It is now time to get on and begin the massive task of returning the iconic building to its former glory.
There is a lot of work that needs to be done as the site has been neglected for over ten years and we need to ensure it doesn’t lay dormant for longer than it needs to.
